Derek Yu wrote about finishing games yesterday; in particular, he provided some tips for making sure you actually get that damn game done (tip #3 echoes — to an extent — my own thoughts about writing game engines).
Yu touches on the fact that most people probably have a number of failed projects under their belt, games that, for whatever reason, simply didn’t turn out. His tips will hopefully help ward you against that scenario, but it’s also important to remember that failure is a learning experience. A mistake is one of the best ways to learn something. So take Yu’s advice to heart, but if you fail despite it, remember that it’s only a negative if you don’t take any new knowledge from it — pick yourself up and start again.
